Amazon Alexa Devices Are Already on Sale, but the Deals Aren't All as Good as They Look Amazon raised prices across its devices in August. Here are the early device deals ahead of Prime Day that are still worth it--and which aren't. Amazon's Prime Day has returned for its fall edition, and the Amazon Alexa-powered devices are already on sale. But are the sales actually any good? There's already the question of whether you want Alexa in your house, and now it's a question of whether the sales are more of a mind game than a real discount.

Amazon Prime Day is finally here, and you can score excellent discounts on most of Amazon's own devices. One deal of note is on the Echo Show 5, which you can snag for only 50 right now. The Echo Show 8 is also on sale for 85, which is a new record low. The Echo Show 5 easily made our list of the best smart displays, for a great many reasons. The 5.5-inch screen is diminutive, especially when compared to the Echo Show 8, but that just makes it fit better on a desk or nightstand.

Last year Amazon upgraded its Echo Show 8 to make it look better, sound better and respond more quickly to Alexa commands. It made our best smart display list, and if you've been eyeing one, it's on sale at a steep discount. The third-gen, 2023 Echo Show 8 is 33 percent off, bringing it down to just 100 ( 50 off), only 10 off the all-time low. Amazon also has stellar deals on the Echo Dot and Echo Pop, offering them for 28 and 20 respectively. Amazon's Echo Show 8 (3rd generation) has a new design and new features that make it more responsive to Alexa commands.

There are a ton of tricks that smart displays can do. But not all of them are created equal or are worth doing on this style of advice. The basics are easy--just about anyone knows how handy it is to ask any smart speaker or smart display to tell you the weather or play music. It's their best use case, especially since smart displays like the Echo Show can give you more weather details onscreen. But that's not all these handy devices do, and for the price you should get the most out of any smart display you buy.
